Collections for the needs of the Church

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As members of the Catholic Church, we each share responsibility for supporting the material needs of the Church according to our ability. Our parishes are places of worship, learning and fellowship. They are where faith is nurtured, families are supported and the Gospel is proclaimed.

To continue this vital work, we rely on the generous support of parishioners. Your contributions sustain our priests, support parish ministries and help maintain our church buildings for future generations.

Weekly Collections

1. First Collection – Support for our Priests
The First Collection provides for the financial support of our priests. In many parishes, the amount collected is not enough to meet the minimum stipend required. For this reason, First Collections across the Diocese are combined, and additional diocesan funds are used to ensure priests receive their fortnightly stipend.

2. Second Collection – Support for the Parish
The Second Collection supports the day-to-day operations of the parish. This includes administration, parish ministries, building maintenance, electricity, insurance and a 5% contribution towards the education of future priests.

How much should I give?

“Each should give as much as you have decided on your own initiative, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Giving is a personal decision, guided by prayer and generosity of heart.

How can I give?

You may support your parish in several ways:

• Set up a regular transfer via mobile or internet banking (see the attached PDF for account details).
• Visit your parish website or speak with your Parish Priest to arrange direct debit from your credit card or bank account.
• Use the EFTPOS terminal at the church entrance, where available.
• Place your offering in the First and Second collection plates at Sunday Mass.

Whichever method you choose, regular support for both collections is deeply appreciated. Your generosity enables the Church to continue sharing the joy of the Gospel and serving our community.

You may also wish to consider remembering your parish in your will. A gift of any size will help sustain the mission of the Church for generations to come.
